Hi everyone! As an auto transport professional, you have to arm yourself with the right information and tools to both grow and protect yourself and your business from outside threats. The challenge is that the landscape is changing everyday and hackers are becoming more and more sophisticated in how they try to trick you or gain access to your (and your customers’!) data.
We’re here to bring you all the ways you can increase your security and safeguard your business, so you can focus on moving cars and increasing profits.
Email is the primary way that many people login into key operational platforms such as their transport management systems, logistics and financial software, and load boards. However, while email is a primary source of communication and login access, its is also a gateway to cyber attacks for hackers who use tactics like phishing.
What’s phishing? Phishing is a cyber attack that involves sending messages fraudulently via email or text that look legitimate, but carry malicious intent – like getting access to your data via downloads and cookies. But how do you defend yourself against phishing scams and keep hackers out? Let’s dive in:
Hackers are looking to trick people by providing information that looks safe but has ulterior motives. The first way to protect yourself is by ensuring the sender of the message is from someone you trust and the email is valid. Hackers will impersonate a sender you recognize – using their name and even their company logo.
In addition to checking sender information for authenticity, you can protect yourself by exercising caution when clicking links and downloading attachments. Is this email from a valid sender you know and trust? Were you expecting this link? When you hover over the link does it match the description? If any of the answers to those questions is “no” – that’s a red flag.
Lastly, beware of urgency in messages asking you to take action. This is a way for hackers to trick you into clicking a malicious link, downloading a risky attachment, or taking another rushed action that they can use to sneak into your systems. Take a pause before you act and think through what risks you’re taking.
So there you have it – a few ways to protect yourself and business from phishing scams. Take some time to reflect and share what you’ve learned.
